Intricate: Visitors at the exhibition-cum-sale of saris with Zardozi work, organised by the Shaheen Zardozi Training Centre, in Bidar on Saturday. BIDAR: An exhibition-cum-sale of saris with Zardozi work was organised in Bidar city on Saturday by the Shaheen Zardozi Training Centre. Mehar Sultana, head of the centre, told The Hindu that 200 women were given training in the Zardozi art in April and May. These women had crafted designs on saris after completing the training, she said. These saris were put on display at the exhibition. The exhibition-cum-sale was also aimed at inspiring women to get trained in the Zardozi art, she said. So far, 800 women have been trained at the centre. Target“We have set a target to train at least 10,000 women in Bidar in the art to make them self-reliant, Ms. Sultana said. Women could earn a living by crafting designs on saris at their home, she said and added that they could make best use of their leisure time for the work. Facilities“We are providing marketing facilities for these women here. We may expand the market to Hyderabad soon,” she said. The cost of saris on display at exhibition ranged between Rs. 200 and Rs. 4,000, Ms. Sultana added.
