NEW DELHI: The Union Government has decided to open two new nursing colleges in the Capital.

A college of nursing each will come up at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital. The new institutes will offer B.Sc. (Honours) Nursing programme that will be for duration of four years. The two colleges will be affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

The nursing college at Safdarjung Hospital will admit 100 students, while the one at RML Hospital will have an intake of 50.

Admission to both the colleges will be done on the basis of a common entrance test that will be conducted by IP University on September 20 this year.

The programme is open only to unmarried women candidates who have cleared their Class XII with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the aggregate of four subjects, including English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The prospectus-cum-application form can be obtained from either of the two new nursing colleges or from IP University campus at Kashmere Gate against a demand draft.

Last date

The last date to obtain the application forms by hand is August 27 and the deadline for submitting the filled-in applications has been set as August 30.

Speaking about the new institutions, Vice-Chancellor K.K. Aggarwal said: “Our University has always endeavoured to offer educational opportunities in those professional disciplines which are in demand by the society. Both RML and Safdarjung are well established hospitals and we are happy to be associated with their nursing colleges. Moreover, this move will increase our overall intake in the nursing programme by 225 seats.”

Besides these two new colleges, GGSIPU has granted affiliation to another nursing college this year -- St. Stephen’s College of Nursing.
