NEW DELHI: Four persons who had allegedly been running a “mandrax” manufacturing unit have been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in an operation carried out in neighbouring Ghaziabad and Hazipur in Bihar. The agency claims to have seized 1.7 tonne of the banned drug and other chemicals. The agency received an input that Nisar Husain Dar, who was into manufacturing of chemicals, had allegedly been running a mandrax manufacturing unit at Hazipur. Subsequently a raid was mounted at Hazipur and three persons, identified as Hamza, Khalid and Namdev, were arrested after the seizure of the consignment of mandrax and other chemicals. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that Dar had been living in Ghaziabad. Subsequently a raid was mounted and he was arrested. The agency reportedly seized 200 kg of chemicals used in the manufacturing of mandrax from a unit allegedly being run by him in Ghaziabad. Investigations revealed that Dar, who had worked in chemical factories for the past decade, had allegedly taken the Hazipur factory on rent. He allegedly used to supply the raw material and supervised the operations, sources said. The agency suspects that the accused were smuggle mandrax to countries like South Africa.
