HYDERABAD: Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and AICC general secretary M. Veerappa Moily said that Andhra Pradesh could become a hub for nuclear energy in the coming years.

“The fast pace of development in Andhra Pradesh with conducive atmosphere will make the State a leader in the country by creating a nuclear hub,” Mr. Moily said after inaugurating the two-day workshop for State and District Congress spokespersons of Southern States organised by the AICC media department here on Saturday.

Dwelling on the Indo-US nuclear cooperation agreement, he said India desperately needs to explore nuclear power as an alternative source to meet its energy needs.

Referring to various achievements of the Congress-led UPA government, Mr. Moily said the allocation for almost all ministries and departments was increased. He said agriculture received a massive boost during the current regime with three-fold outlay for farm and irrigation sectors touching 1.38 lakh crore. He asked the party leaders to gear up for the next elections by donning the role of ‘sales and marketing personnel’ by highlighting the Centre’s programmes.

He also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of adopting divisive policies by raking up the Amarnath land transfer issue and trying to divide the State of Jammu & Kashmir.

In all, 315 delegates from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry are attending the workshop organised at the AP Academy of Rural Development at Rajendranagar.
