MKCG students get telemedicine project

Medicos dream to be entrepreneurs


The KPO will have patient care representatives

It will have medical shops to provide OTC drugs


BERHAMPUR: A group of budding medicos of MKCG medical college of the city dream to be entrepreneurs using ‘service’ as their major capital. These final year students of the medical college have already come up with their company.

They have started searching for sources that could provide the capital funding for their health services related ‘Knowledge Processing and Outsourcing (KPO) centre’.

Lalit Kumar Manik is the Managing Director of this company which is in its nascent state. Smruti Ranjan Patnaik is its technical head, Debendra Tiwari looks after its financial activities, Yera Dhanurdhar is planning up its human resources management. Sunil Kumar Shukla and Ullas Raut are the new partners in this innovative venture.

Their project has already drawn the attention of business and management experts as it was chosen in the list of top 10 business models of this year in the ‘Indian Innovations Pioneers Challenge’.

This project is unique, as for the first time medical students of the country have come up with a business plan in their field of service sector.

Competitions

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Patnaik said they came up with the idea of this business project when they came across the problems of a common man to get health services and data related to health services from the experiences in their own family.

But they failed to get necessary help from the government and other sources to take up the project.

Haribandhu Panda, the director of a management institute in Bhubaneswar advised them to participate in ‘innovative business’ projects competitions held in different IITs,

NITs and premier institutes like Anna University.

Everywhere this project by medicos drew laurels amidst the projects by technocrats. It enthused these medical students to take up this project as their life’s aim and source of employment.
