Awards presented to police personnel

BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has conferred police personnel with different awards for their excellence performance on duty.

As many as 23 police personnel, four of them belonging to Indian Police Services, were given awards on the occasion of 62nd Independence Day celebration here. Names of 20 policemen who would be felicitated during the next Republic Day celebration were announced.

President’s police medal for distinguished service was given to Santosh Kumar Biswal, who was Superintendent of Police-II at Crime Branch of State police. IPS officers Deshraj Meena, additional director general of police, Gopabandhu Mallick, Inspector General of Police (Railways), Bishnu Prasad Mohapatra, Inspector General of Police (investigation) with Orissa Human Rights Commission and Lalit Das, Deputy Inspector General of Police (north-central) were conferred with police medal for meritorious service.

As many as eight police persons were presented medal in this category.

Similarly, fire service medal for gallantry went to firemen Praksh Chandra Nayak while four personnel of the wing got president’s fire service medal for distinguished services. Besides, two civil defence volunteers and three jail staff for correctional service medal for meritorious services were felicitated on the occasion.

Munalal Gupta, Deputy Superintendent of Police with special branch at Cuttack, was chosen for president’s police award for distinguished service.

Incidentally, names of no IPS officer figured in the different award category, which was announced on eve of Independence Day.
