CUTTACK: The State Director General of Police (DGP) Gopal Chandra Nanda dedicated to the people the Police Martyrs’ Memorial Commemorative Plaques at the police headquarters here on Saturday. The memorial statue that was in place here since the early 60’s was replaced with the traditional memorial statue with cap resting on inverted gun. The well decorated Martyr’s lawn now has eight commemorative plaques on which are inscribed the names of all the policemen who have sacrificed their life while performing their duties since 1961.

Along with the DGP, several senior police officers of the State were present at the inaugural ceremony. Nanda was first to lead the battery of senior cops to pay homage to the hundreds of police martyrs who have laid down their lives while performing duties. The Martyrs’ memorial coming up just after announcement of Ashok Chakra award to Pramod Kumar Satapathy, who died fighting Maoists during Nayagarh attack in February this year, would go a long way in paying tributes to the valiant policemen for their courageous sacrifices.
