N.D. Tiwari unveils statue of freedom fighter Gouthu Latchanna He asks people of State to take pride in their language and culture
Momentous occasion: Governor N.D. Tiwari cuts a cake to mark the birth centenary celebrations of Gouthu Latchanna, whose statue he unveiled in Machilipatnam on Saturday. — MACHILIPATNAM (Krishna district): Governor Narayan Dutt Tiwari on Saturday called upon people’s representatives at the grassroots level and all the stakeholders to focus their attention on the need for overall development of villages and for the active welfare of large populations living there. He recalled the Gandhian message that “India lives in its villages,” which, he said, would require a greater political will and commitment for impressively improving the living conditions of rural people. The Governor was addressing the second anniversary celebrations of the present administrative body of Krishna Zilla Parishad, when he lauded the efforts of its leadership for securing the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 certification. He also congratulated Machilipatnam and Movva mandals for getting the certification and called for efforts to bring in such standards in all other mandals of the district. Dr. Tiwari later unveiled a bronze statue of freedom fighter and backward classes leader Gouthu Latchanna at Bus Stand centre. A large number of people attended the programme. The Governor said Latchanna rendered yeomen service to the poor and the downtrodden. Hails AbhinavIt was time every Indian emulated the success of Abhinav Bindra who brought gold medal to the country in the Olympics. He also called upon people of Andhra Pradesh to take pride in their language and culture and strive to promote it. Konakalla Narayana Rao presided over the meeting, which was attended by Ministers Mandali Buddha Prasad, Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao, MP Badiga Ramakrishna, MLA Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani), TDP Parliamentary Party leader K. Yerrannaidu, Andhra Pradesh Hindi Akademi president Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, several MLAs, MLCs, district Collector Shailaja Ramaiyer and other officials.
