Left high and dry: Septuagenarian Narasamma stands to lose her land as the Government has allotted it to DLF.

HYDERABAD: BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya on Saturday charged Chief Minster Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy of issuing orders that seek to give away government land worth Rs.2,000 crore at throwaway prices.

He was speaking to mediapersons after visiting Dayarguda Basthi in Kukatpally and meeting families displaced from land allocation to the construction firm, DLF, for a mega agriculture hub.

He also alleged that land worth crores of rupees belonging to the reputed National Academy of Construction (NAC) is also sold away cheaply.

At Dayarguda Basthi, one of the affected, Narsamma, said that no money was paid to them when the land was forcibly taken away by Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) in 1983 for truck parking terminals.

Today the same land was being sold for huge amounts while no benefits were accorded to us, she said prompting Mr. Dattatreya to question the Chief Minister’s claim of being pro-poor. “Why have the 16 affected Dalit families not given any kind of compensation for the high value land,” he asked adding that his party would file a case in court and fight on behalf of those affected.

Taking a dig at the ‘Rakshabandhan’ advertisement issued by the Chief Minister, where women were exhorted to write to him about problems they faced, Mr. Dattatreya questioned how petitions of women would be replied when Dr. Reddy never bothered to reply to any of the 108 letters written by him.

“If an Opposition leader like me couldn’t elicit a reply from the Chief Minister, what response would he give to the common people,” asked Mr. Dattatreya.
