Manmohan Singh has failed to contain inflation, says Venkaiah Naidu
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday blamed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for having failed to take effective steps to contain inflation.
Though the price of crude oil has crashed in the international market, the rate of inflation is going up and has reached a new peak, Mr. Naidu said. Criticising the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government for having bungled on different fronts, including agriculture and internal security, the BJP leader, who was in the city, claimed there was shortage of fertilizer. There was no political will on the part of Dr. Singh to bring in stronger laws to tackle terrorism. Referring to Dr. Singh’s statement that the economy should achieve a growth rate of 10 per cent, Mr. Naidu questioned its rationale when there was a slowdown in core sectors, including manufacturing. Agricultural growth was not even touching the three per cent mark.
