LUCKNOW: Abul Bashar Qasmi, arrested by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat police from his residence in Binapaara area in U.P., was produced in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate here for taking him on three days transit remand to Gujarat. He was presented before the Remand Magistrate, Swapna Singh, by the Gujarat police. Son of Abu Bakar, Qasmi was a teacher in a Hyderabad-based ‘madrassa’ and had come to his hometown for a holiday. While U.P. police officials refused to comment on the development, the Gujarat police sought the Anti-Terrorism Squad’s help. The sources said Qasmi had prepared the SIMI literature on the serial bomb blasts in Ahmedabad, Jaipur and in the Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi civil court serial blasts on November 23, 2007. Mumbai ATS roleMumbai Staff Reporter reports: Among the nine SIMI activists arrested by the Gujarat police in connection with the Ahmedabad blasts, the names of three were provided by the Mumbai ATS. ATS chief Hemant Karkare told journalists here that the three —Sajid Mansuri, Shamshuddin Siddiqui and Arif Shiekh — were “active SIMI cadres. They are like nomads.” They had been in Maharashtra for a brief period.
