Miraculous escape for Naidu as car brake fails

Staff Reporter

TIRUMALA: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday had a miraculous escape when the brake of the bullet proof car in which he was travelling failed while negotiating a sharp curve on the first ghat road leading to Tirupati about ten kilometres from here. However, the car driver immediately applied the hand-brake and shifted the gears to bring the car to a halt.

The vehicle spun around as a result. Mr. Naidu quickly moved into another car in the convoy and motored downhill to Tirupati to participate in the locally- arranged programmes.

Vehicular traffic was interrupted on the ghat road for about fifteen minutes following the incident.

Among those accompanying the TDP president in the car was former Minister B. Gopalakrishna Reddy, who, incidentally, happened to be in Mr. Naidu’s ill-fated car that was badly damaged when naxalites triggered mines at Alipiri in October 2003.
