Animal tissues for cardiac surgery

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology and the Kerala Livestock Development Board are launching a project for the development of de-cellularised animal tissues for cardiovascular applications.

The project, to be launched by Food and Animal Husbandry Minister C. Divakaran on Tuesday, aims at producing high-quality de-cellularised animal tissues for paediatric cardiac surgery.

A team at the institute will de-cellularise animal tissues received from the board.

The processed tissues will be tested for safety and efficiency.
