YOUNG CHAMPS: Winners Vishwajit Tirumurti and Nandita Krishnan pose with the chief guest R. Srikanth, M.D., ABI Showatech India Ltd. CHENNAI: Vishwajit Tirumurti won the KTC-ABI-Showatech State-ranking tennis tournament on Saturday, overcoming a gritty V. Sudharshan 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3 in the final. The two players traded games for the better part of the first set before Sudharshan broke Vishwajit in the eighth game, only to be broken back immediately in the ninth. Vishwajit swayed the first set tie-break his way with some big forehands from behind the baseline and won it 7-3. Sudharshan broke Vishwajit in the third game and hung on to nail the second set. In the decider, Vishwajit broke through twice to clinch the title. Earlier, Nandita Krishnan won the girls’ singles title beating P.A. Sindu Nila 6-3, 6-1 in the final. Nandita broke her adversary’s service games six times in the match. Incidentally, both Nandita and Vishwajit, are the grandchildren of Indian tennis legend Ramanathan Krishnan.
