Sultanpuri murder suspect nabbed

NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a man at Sultanpuri here on Monday. The accused had buried the body of the victim inside a jhuggi owned by him.

According to the police, 55-year-old Ramphool went missing on Monday night. His family lodged a complaint the next morning and raised suspicion about the involvement of a neighbour named Ram Niwas.

They told the police that on Sunday, an altercation broke out between the wives of Ramphool, a relative of an MLA, and Ram Niwas over the issue of fetching water. Their husbands joined and Ramphool allegedly roughed up Ram Niwas.

Suspecting his role, the police picked up Ram Niwas for questioning.

During interrogation, he broke down and purportedly confessed to having killed Ramphool when he was asleep in the veranda of his house on the night of August 11. He then allegedly buried the body in one of the jhuggis owned by him.

The police arrested Ram Niwas after the body was recovered allegedly at his instance.
