Three arrested in excise raids

Thiruvananthapuram: The Excise Department has stepped up raids all over the district, in a move to unearth illicit liquor in the run-up to the Onam festival season.

Two persons, Sankaran, 45 and Rajan, 30, were nabbed from Valiasala for possession of 25 litres of liquor. Another person, Mohanan, 50, was nabbed from his hideout among rocks in a granite quarry at Kalladichavila near Poonkulam while selling illicit liquor. He was produced in court and remanded in custody.

The raids were carried out by a special investigation team led by Thiruvananthapuram Excise Circle Preventive Officer G. Sureshkumar.

Excise officials have sought the help of the public to crack down on illicit liquor and drugs. Citizens have been directed to contact the phone number 2472747 to provide information about drug peddlers and liquor vendors.
