Some Airtel cell phones ‘switched off’

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Airtel cell phone users in some parts of the city had a difficult time since there was no network connectivity since Saturday noon.

Many who dialled Airtel numbers were greeted with the recorded message: “This Airtel number you have called is switched off. Please try after some time.” When they cross-checked, the cell phones of those whom they were trying to reach were switched on. Customers were irate over the recorded message as it gave the wrong impression to their employers and families.

The problem appeared to be confined to a particular set of numbers and locations. A press note from Airtel said: “One of our fibre cables got cut early in the day. A few of our customers in Rajajinagar, M.G. Road, Ulsoor, Gandhinagar and Kumara Park areas and some roaming customers have been facing problems. Our technical team is working on it and we hope to restore normal services before the end of the day.”
