BHUBANESWAR: As part of the country wide celebrations of the three-day-long aradhana mahotsav, a major devotional event of the nation, the Raghavendra Swamy temple in Bayababa mutt lane here is gearing up for the State-level annual religious congregation.

Aradhana mahotsav is being celebrated in India for the past 337 years as homage to the famous saint Sri Raghabendra Sarvabhouma, the founder of the well-known Pejawar mutt of Udupi in Karnataka. The country has 580 such temples dedicated to Raghavendra Swamy that includes the 22-year-old Bhubaneswar temple and mutt, informed the mutt manager Laxminarayana Samaga.

The holy event that would commence on Sunday under the guidance of Sri Vishwesha Thirtha Swami of the Pejawar mutt of Udupi would include some of the daily special sevas (services and rituals) like anna aantarpana seva, sarva saamarpana, aradhana seva, sahasra shanka kshirabhisheka, rathothasava and panchamruta besides samohika satayanarayana puja on the concluding day. A large number of South Indians from Orissa and neighbouring states would participate in the event.

The temple authorities have also arranged several cultural events for the three day event.

On Sunday, FMC Bhajan Mandali of Kolkata would perform Radha Kalyanam while Monday morning would have Lalitha Sahasranamam that would be open to the devotees for participation. It would be followed by vocal music rendition by Cuttack-based Sachin Ramesh, sitar recital by Mita Mukherjee from Kolkata and tabla by Sukanta Pradhan.

Temple managing committee secretary Bhima Rao informed that efforts are on to build up Anantha ashram and Swagata Gopuram on the temple premises soon.
