New section of excellence in science on the anvil

Staff Reporter

Project presentation given at a special meeting of alumni

Students will be selected at the end of

Standard VIII for this section

Selection will be based on their scientific

and non-linguistic competences

PUDUCHERRY: With plans to start a new section of excellence in science from next year, Lycee Francais, a French school in Puducherry, organised a special gathering of alumni for a project presentation of the section on August 14.

According to a release, a new section of excellence in science would be open to Indian and international students, who have a good score in science and are studying in an English-speaking system in India or another country, from July 2009.

Students would be selected at the end of Standard VIII for the section. They would pursue a course of excellence in science at Lycee Francais. The curriculum has been prepared in collaboration with Lycee Louis Le Grand of Paris, a high school in France and would enable them to be prepared for all scientific studies of excellence at the international level, the release said.

After four years of studies at the Lycee Francais, the students would pass the Baccalaureate (French +2) in the same number of years as their high school fellows who would pass Plus Two examination.

The selection of students would be made according to their scientific and non-linguistic competences.

They would learn French language in an intensive and progressive way and follow a scientifically strengthened curriculum.

In fact, the students would pass the scientific degree Baccalaureate with a special European mention to value their bilingual abilities, added the release.

Around 50 alumni of the school took part in the project presentation on the new section of excellence in science. The meeting was organised by the Alumni Association of Lycee Francais.
