Yeddyurappa interacts with flood-hit people Permanent houses promised for all in Hunnargi
Assistance: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa looking at the application submitted by Aquib at a flood relief centre in Hunnargi village on Sunday. Hunnargi (Belgaum district): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa sanctioned Rs. 25,000 for the treatment of four-year-old Aquib, who is suffering from heart disease, during an interaction with members of flood-affected families at Hunnargi in Chikkodi taluk of Belgaum district on Sunday. On learning about Aquib’s plight from his father Harun Babu Jamadar, who is housed in a temporary flood relief centre at here, Mr. Yeddyurappa sanctioned the relief and assured him that the Government would bear the entire cost of the treatment. Aquib has to undergo a surgery, Mr. Jamadar said and added that he was not in a position to bear the cost. Chairman of the KLE Society Prabhakar B. Kore, MP, offered to provide treatment to Aquib at the KLES Hospital in Belgaum. He asked Mr. Jamadar to get the child admitted at the hospital for the treatment. Mr. Yeddyurappa, who was running behind schedule by over three hours as his flight was delayed owing to bad weather, held a brief interaction with those staying at the relief centre and later addressed a gathering in the village. Hunnargi, a low-lying village on the banks of the Krishna, was prone to floods, Mr. Yeddyurappa said and assured the residents that the Government would provide permanent houses to all the families in the village in a safe place. He also highlighted the promises made by him in the State Budget on increasing cash component from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000 for construction of Ashraya houses and providing loans at 3 per cent interest rate for farmers and weavers. Minister for Cooperation Lakshman S. Savadi, Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy, MP Suresh C. Angadi, former Minister Prakash B. Hukkeri, MLAs Abhay Kumar Patil and Kakasaheb Patil, Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Raghavendra Auradkar, Deputy Commissioner G. Ravishankar and Superintendent of Police Sonia Narang were among those present. Meanwhile, Mr. Ravishankar told presspersons that the Government decided to relocate 36 villages to safe place after they were submerged during the floods in the Krishna and the Ghataprabha in 2006. It was decided to relocate six villages fully and 30 villages partially. He said that 428 acres of land was needed for the purpose. Mr. Ravishankar said that 68 acres of government land was readily available and the Government had acquired 128 acres of land. However, litigations pertaining to other land identified for relocating the residents of the villages had delayed the acquisition process.
