Phagwara: A seventeen-year old boy drowned in the Chitti Bein rivulet near a shrine of ‘Khwaja Pir Di Dargah’ near here, local official said on Sunday. Gopal, alias Gopi lost control after he jumped in the river apparently to collect a ten-rupee note thrown by some devotee as offering from Chaheru overbridge built near the ‘Dargah’ on Saturday, it was learnt. The deceased’s body was fished out after four hours by three rescue boats, the administration said. Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers along with Gopi’s parents blocked the traffic on National Highway No. 1 last night in protest against the administration for allegedly delaying in starting rescue operation.
