All smiles: Ranjib Biswal and Asirbad Behera pose victory sign after getting elected to the Orissa Cricket Association as president and secretary respectively. CUTTACK: Showing once again his supremacy and blitzkrieg in the affairs of Orissa Cricket Association (OCA), Asirbad Behera and his panel of candidates crushed their opponents to sweep the quadrennial elections of the richest sporting body of the State here on Sunday. While Behera trampled his opponent Anand Naik to retain the post of secretary for third consecutive term, former MP and editor of a vernacular daily Ranjib Biswal, a member of national selection committee retained the post of President defeating former OCA treasurer Pradeep Chouhan. Behera’s close confidant Satya Mohanty who has served the OCA as joint secretary for last eight years was also elected to the coveted post of treasurer by defeating Hari Narayan Pujary. Behera recorded a huge win defeating his rival by a margin of 95 votes. Out of the 147 votes polled today, Behera got 121 votes while Naik could manage only 26 votes in his favour. Out of the 152 council members of OCA, four members were debarred from election while another member abstained from the polling. Only 147 members attended the executive body meeting and participated in the polling. On the other hand, Biswal defeated his strong opponent Chauhan by a margin of only 52 votes. While Biswal, a former international cricketer polled 99 votes, Chauhan, a cricket organizer of repute could manage only 47 votes in his favour with one vote being countermanded. Similarly, Satya Mohanty won the treasurer post by defeating his rival Pujary by a margin of 79 votes. Mohanty managed 113 votes in his favour and only 34 votes went to his opponent. Like all the three key posts of the council going in favour of Behera and to his supporters, the remaining posts of eight vice presidents and three joint secretaries were also won by the candidates of his camp. Adip Das (108 votes), N K Das (107), Md Sabir Husasain (116), Chinmayananda Jena (113), Gagan Chandra Lenka (104), Anup Patra (106), Nabaranjan Patra (108) and Khitish Samantray (115) were elected as vice presidents. The four losing candidates for the post of vice president—Mehtab Khan got 38 votes, P K Panda (35) Rabi Panda (46) and Manas Sethy got only 33 votes. Similarly, R C Das Mohapatra with 113 votes, S K Dutta with 107 votes and Siba Prasad Tripathy with 106 votes polled in their favour to be elected as joint secretaries of the OCA for the next four years.
