Nexus between police and cattle traders alleged

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: An animal rights group on Sunday alleged that police was hand in glove with traders who smuggled out large number of cattle without necessary permissions.

Addressing a press conference, activists of the city-based People for Animals (PFA) also alleged that police were not receiving their complaints about illegal trading. Moreover, police, who should have responded to alert raised by them about illegal transportation of over 60 cows, took an animal rights activist into custody, they said. Sanjeeb Das, who claimed to have spent five-days in Choudwar Circle Jail, said, “my only crime was that I forced a reluctant police team in Cuttack to seize a truck carrying over 60 cows. As per the law, only six cows can be transported at once.”

The group demanded a high level probe into the police-cattle trader nexus.
