Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy formally inaugurated Rajiv Arogyasri at Narsipuram in Parvathipuram mandal and participated in a mega medical camp organised by the Medical and Health Department. Dr. Reddy was to launch the scheme at Parvathipuram on August 5 but it was cancelled due to heavy rain. The Chief Minister, who was a medical practitioner, examined five patients at the camp and offered them medical aid under the scheme at a corporate hospital.
Later, addressing a gathering, the Chief Minister said with the increase in income limit of families in urban and rural areas, white ration cardholders could avail of the benefit. He said though the previous government had scrapped the Rs.2-a-kg rice scheme and increased the rate to Rs.5.25p, his Government, with a view to benefiting the poorest of the poor, reintroduced the scheme, though it was not listed in his election promises. He reeled out his Government’s achievements, including housing and distribution of pensions.
