All vigour: Yakshagana artistes staging a demonstration in Bangalore on Saturday urging the Government to let out the Ravindra Kalakshetra free of cost or at nominal rates.

Bangalore: Yakshagana artistes have urged the Government to let out the Ravindra Kalakshetra for performances of the folk art free of cost or at nominal rates.

The artistes, under the banner of the Yakshagana Yogakshema Abhiyana and Sri Guruprasadita Yakshagana Mandali, Saligrama, submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Director, Kannada and Culture, in this regard.

Pointing out that Yakshagana, a traditional folk art of Karnataka, had to be encouraged, the artistes said they could not afford the high cost of conveyance, food and accommodation in Bangalore.

“Apart from this, the high rent at the Ravindra Kalakshetra is a big burden on us,” V.R. Hegde, one of the artistes has said.

“If the hall is let out for free, it will be a great help to the artistes and the traditional folk art,” Mr. Hegde added.
