Government assurance sought

CHENNAI: The PMK founder, S. Ramadoss, on Saturday said the government should give an assurance that villagers who work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme would be paid the wages they are legally entitled to.

The government should take stringent action against erring officials.

In a statement here, he said there were allegations that workers were not paid the wages due to them.

Dr. Ramadoss criticised the alleged police action on casual workers in Mailam panchayat union in Villupuram district who resorted to a peaceful demonstration after they were paid lesser wages. — Special Correspondent
