THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government would enhance the treasury interest rate on par with bank interest rates by Onam, Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said here on Sunday. Inaugurating the special chit schemes of the Kerala State Financial Enterprises (KSFE), the Finance Minister said the interest rate would be initially pegged at 9.5 per cent. The government proposed to make treasury deposits as attractive as normal bank accounts, he added. The Finance Minister said the KSFE was poised for tremendous growth in the coming months. It had a turnover of Rs.5,500 crore during 2007-’08. .Congress deputy legislature party leader G. Karthikeyan, MLA, was the chief guest at the function which was presided over by Mayor C. Jayan Babu.
