Venkaiah criticises Shabana’s remark

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday criticised cine actress and social activist Shabana Azmi for her remarks that Indian polity is being “unfair” to Muslims.

M. Venkaiah Naidu, Rajya Sabha member, termed such remarks as “highly irresponsible,” at a press conference in here on Sunday.

“It is an uncharitable and unfair comment against the country and its polity. It is really unfortunate that a person like Ms. Azmi has made such comments,” he said.

Security

“Muslims are more secure in India than in other country. Nowhere in the world has minorities been given the kind of importance that is given here,” he said.

Muslims had occupied top posts such as those of the president, the vice-president, the Chief Minister and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in the country, he said.
