Nesargi demands probe into missing files

Suspension of two officials sought
for ‘misguiding’
the Government

BANGALORE: Former chairperson of the Karnataka State Women’s Commission Pramila Nesargi on Saturday denied the charges made against her by the Women and Child Development Department that 890 complaints submitted to the commission were missing during her tenure, and demanded a probe into the matter to unravel the truth.

Ms. Nesargi also sought the suspension of Shalini Rajneesh, Secretary to the department, and Parvathi Thimmaiah, secretary in the commission, for “misguiding” the Government.

Complaints

Some legislators had alleged that Ms. Nesargi was responsible for the complaints, submitted to the commission in 2007, going missing.

Addressing presspersons here, Ms. Nesargi alleged that Ms. Rajneesh and Ms. Thimmaiah were responsible for that.

Both of them provided wrong information to Minister for Women and Child Development P.M. Narendra Swamy to prevent her from becoming chairperson of the commission again.

“This is a big drama played by the officials to insult me,” Ms. Nesargi alleged.

Information

The department had sent a letter to Ms. Nesargi, who was the chairperson of the commission between February and October 2007, seeking information on the missing complaints.

The letter sent to Ms. Nesargi in June this year says that of the 1,188 complaints that were received during her tenure, 890 are missing. Ms. Nesargi resigned during the President’s Rule in the State.

Ms. Nesargi said the files were in the office when she was removed from the post after the imposition of President’s Rule in October. “I did not take anything with me when I left office and I have not stepped in there after that,” Ms. Nesargi added.
