Rajasthan to hold 19 sports events

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government’s Education Department on Sunday announced a calendar for the academic session 2008-09 for holding as many as 19 sports competitions at the district and State levels during the next two months.

An official release stated here that all District Education Officers had been instructed to organise sports events in three groups for swimming, volleyball, cricket, badminton, kabaddi, lawn tennis, archery and athletics.

The 53rd State-level secondary and senior secondary students’ sports contest will be held during this academic session. The release said the 26th State-level sub-junior hockey competition would be organised at Jalore by this month-end.

The Director, Secondary Education, has also asked the District Education Officers to observe August 29 as the sports day in commemoration of famous hockey player Major Dhyanchand.
