Retrenched TTD workers launch fast
Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI: The recent retrenchment of forest workers by the TTD management has come in for strong criticism from leaders of all political parties and their trade union wings. Addressing the workers after they intensified their stir with an indefinite hunger strike from today, the all party leaders regretted that the ruling Congress party and those who are at the helm of affairs in the TTD now should ditch the forest employees after having indulged in ‘sweet talk’ before the elections.
They also lashed out at the TTD for ‘throwing away’ its funds on numerous ‘needless’ programmes all over the State and country but dragging its feet when it came to addressing the grievances of the retrenched forest staff some of whose family members, they alleged, have either perished due to poverty or were facing untold hardship due to unemployment.
It is rather ironic that the TTD which expounded the cause of love and compassion to those in misery, should itself adopt an ‘indifferent attitude’ towards its own forest workers.
