“Job scheme beneficiaries being incited to hold agitation”

Special Correspondent

Committee formed to ensure proper implementation of scheme: Stalin

Reported complaints have already been rectified

A few parties are undertaking a false propaganda

SIVAGANGA: Minister for Local Administration M. K. Stalin has accused that some opposition parties had been inciting a section of beneficiaries to organise agitations against the Government by finding fictitious complaints in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to get cheap publicity.

“The State Government has formed a committee, consisting of various MPs, MLAs, officials and others, to ensure proper implementation of the much important scheme. The “reported complaints” have already been rectified. The Committee has also expressed satisfaction over the scheme. However, a few parties are undertaking a false propaganda with an ulterior motive,” he said.

Speaking after launching a scheme to renovate 487 ‘ooranies’ of Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts at a cost of Rs.25.75 crore at a function here on Sunday, Mr. Stalin said that though the NREGS had been implementing throughout the country, Tamil Nadu was leading in the efficient implementation of the scheme. The Central Government had also appreciated the efforts taken by the State to ensure proper implementation of it.

Appealing the beneficiaries of the scheme not to give room for politics, he said he was continuously monitoring the progress of the work undertaken in all districts of the State. He was in constant touch with the Collectors to see excellent results.

Mr. Stalin said that as against Rs.80 per day’s work, most of the beneficiaries had been working well to receive maximum salary.

Back to old system

Highlighting the need for renovating ‘ooranies,’ which were the source of drinking water in Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts, he said that all ‘ooranies’ in Ramanathapuram district would be desilted and covered with fence.

The Government had decided to renovate all ‘ooranies’ in the State to revive the old system of supplying drinking water.

K. K. S. S. R. Ramachandran, K. R. Periakaruppan, S. Thangavelan, A. Tamilarasi, State Ministers, Bhavani Rajendran, Member of Parliament, Dheenabandhu, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration, Swaran Singh, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board, Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Collector, S. Gunasekaran, MLA and others took part.

Mr. Stalin also laid foundation stones to various projects and opened various completed works to the tune of over Rs.200 crore.
