Alok scalps five

NAGERCOIL: Alok’s five for eight helped Sivagangai defeat Thanjavur by four wickets in the TNCA inter-district under-16 cricket tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy at Nagercoil on Sunday.

The scores (At Nagercoil): Villupuram 84 in 29 overs (Anbarasan four for 33, Sekar three for 15) lost to Dharmapuri 88 for four in 21.1 overs; Thanjavur 69 in 32.5 overs (Alokraja five for eight) lost to Sivagangai 72 for six in 35.3 overs (Manikandan 26); Tirunelveli 79 in 31.2 overs (P. Sriram Kumar four for 35, S. Kewin Prasad three for 15) lost to Erode 80 for seven in 22 overs (M. Duraipandy six for 34); Madurai 262 for nine in 50 overs (Abdul Fazal 57, Manoj Babu 33, Prasanavenkatesh 31, Downwilliam three for 45) bt Kanyakumari 147 in 42 overs (A. Vignesh three for 38, Manikandan three for 12).

The scores (At Theni):

Nagapattinam 152 for nine in 50 overs (A. Karthik 49, K. Rajgowtham four for 35) lost to Theni 153 for four in 41 overs (J. R. Arunkanna 41, K. Venkatasubramanian 39, Saysudeem four for 31); Nilgiris 188 for seven in 50 overs (Emmanuel 53 not out) bt Thiruvarur 118 in 33 overs (Aravind five for 29).

Tirunelveli in final

Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari entered the final of the TN State South zone inter-district school under-16 hockey tournament at Srivilliputhur on Sunday.

The results (semifinals): Tirunelveli 4 (P. Rajaperumal, S. Gabri 2, M. Dhileepan) bt Dindigul 0; Kanyakumari 5 (Jegan, Pravin, Arun, Ansari, Niswin) bt Virudhunagar 3 (Rasupandi 2, Stalin Chellappa) via tie-breaker; at the end of regulation the teams were level 2-2.

APC retains title

Annamalai Polytechnic College, Chettinad, beat RVS Polytechnic College, Dindigul, by a solitary goal scored by Sivanesa Pandian to retain the title in the Madurai Division inter-polytechnic college football tournament at Dindigul on Sunday.

Big win for Coimbatore

Host Coimbatore strengthened its chances of a second stage berth with a convincing 271-run win over an off-colour Dindigul in the TNCA under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the SNR Sons grounds here on Sunday.

The scores: At Coimbatore: Coimbatore 341 for seven in 50 overs (Dheer Bhimani 110, Karthi 54, Anirudh 67) bt Dindigul 70 in 30.3 overs (M. Hariprasad four for 10).

Virudhunagar 110 in 35.3 overs (V. Aravind five for 15) lost to Perambalur 112 for five in 25.2 overs.

At Salem: Ramanathapuram 87 in 42.2 overs (Giridaran four for 16, Sri Vishnu three for 7) lost to Nammakal 90 for three in 32.2 overs.

Salem 194 for eight in 50 overs (Navaneeswaran 77 not out, Krishnakumar three for 33) bt Tiruvannamalai 167 in 48.1 overs (Vivek Kannan 55, A.V. Shiva four for 24, S.I. Vasudevan three for 34).
