Yadav scores century

HYDERABAD: A second century of the season by opener Radha Krishan Yadav (100 not out) helped Mayur record a two-wicket win over Satya in the HCA Schools League cricket championship here on Sunday.

The scores: Schools League: St. Andrew’s 259 for six (Chaitanya Krishna 72, G.H. Vihari 42, B. Anirudh 37, C.V. Milind 32 not out, Sharath Reddy four for 96) bt New Star 64 (Sresht four for 13); Satya 148 (Vipul Mantri 36, B. Srikanth three for 40) lost to Mayur 149 for eight (Radha Krishan Yadav 100 not out, Sujeev four for 31).

A- Division (two-day) league: Nizam College 419 for eight (D. Yudhveer Singh 98, Venu Madhav 41, B. Ashuthosh Kumar 85, Hasan Nawaz 103 not out, Vinay Rao six for 130) bt EMCC 175 for eight (A. Akash 43, Abbas Asad 41, B. Sandeep 45); Team Speed 259 (Shilpee Brahma 63, Ravi Teja four for 52, Rohan Baba six for 40) lost to Amberpet 260 for nine (Datta 67, Ananta Vishnu Prasad 68 not out, Rahul Choudhary five for 68); Gujarathi 144 (Nimeesh 49, Ibrahim four for 60, Vincent four for 16) lost to SBI 147 for six.

A-Division (one-day): Sagar Xl 250 (Anwar Ahmed 74, R. Shekar 51) bt Kishoresons 92 (Naseer five for 21, Amjad five for six); Khurshidh Jah 177 for nine (Kaleem 63) lost to Green Turf 181 for five (Sadath 45, Vizarat 51, A. Lateef 50).

A-Institution (one-day): MCH 145 (Narsingh Rao 64, Anand 61, Kumar four for 30) bt IDL 113 (Anil Kumar 54, Dayanand five for 19).

VJIT in final

Vidya Jyothi Institute of Technology (VJIT) recorded a six-wicket win over Mahaveer EC in the semifinals of the fifth Bandari Srinivas inter-Engineering cricket tournament in Chevella here.

The scores (semifinals): Mahaveer Engg. 74 for six in 15 overs (Nitin three for 26) lost to VJIT 76 for four in nine overs; Mallareddy Institute of Technology 105 for five in 15 overs (Lohith 33) bt Lord’s Engineering 101 for nine in 15 overs.

Easy win for SAAP (Nalgonda)

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Academy (Nalgonda) recorded a 7-2 win over Youth League in the A-1 division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here.

The winner led 3-0 at the break. Y. Sagar (1), Raghu Kumar (1), S. Ramesh (3), and Mohd Waheed (2) were the scorers for SAAP, while Madhu and Kripakar slotted for Youth League.

In another match, Mohammadan Sporting notched up a 3-2 win over APSRTC with Azharullah Khan, Meer Ali and Nadeem scoring. Suresh and Deepak Akash reduced the margin for the loser.

Pratyush wins title

Pratyush won the under-10 title in the YMCA Hyderabad open chess tournament (boys and girls combined) here.

Final placings: Under-10: 1. Pratyush 5 pts, 2. Yashvanth 4, 3. Sri Kavya 4 pts. Under-12: 1. Sivanand Sagar 4.5 pts, 2. K. Yeshvanth 4, 3. S.S.V. Aditya 4.

Pat for Harika

Governor N.D. Tiwari hailed D. Harika on winning the World under-20 chess title in Turkey last week. In a message here on Sunday, Mr. Tiwari said: “Harika has made the state and the nation proud by her extraordinary achievement. I wish her all success in the years to come.”

R. Damodar Reddy, Minister for Sports, in a separate message, hoped that this win would inspire many youngsters even as the Andhra girl proved that the state has become the destination for chess champions.
