Manikandan, Darshini sizzle

Coimbatore: M.R. Manikandan of Chennai and S. Darshini of Virudhunagar clinched a double title each in the Yonex junior inter-district and state badminton championship at the Jenney’s courts here on Sunday.

The results (finals):

Boys: U-19 singles: M.R. Manikandan bt Satyanarayana Rao 18-21, 21-17, 22-20. Doubles: M.R. Manikandan & Satyanarayana Rao (Chn) bt B. Ashok & C.R. Manikandan 21-12, 21-17.

Girls: U-19 singles: S. Darshini bt Amrin Mubarak 21-12, 21-19. Doubles: Darshini & K. Suneri bt Amrin & Archana Devi 21-19, 21-10.

Mixed doubles: K. Vidhya & S.C. Adithya bt Amrin & S. Karthick 21-18, 21-17.

Montfort bags title

Host Montfort AIHS (Yercaud) notched up a 1-0 win over NLC Sports School (Neyveli) to win the Bro. Antony of Padua memorial football cup in the state-level sports and games tournament at its premises on Saturday.

In the 16th Eleazar memorial basketball final, the host went down fighting to Kamala Subramaniam School (Thanjavur) 49-45 in extra time.

R. Ravikumar was elected president of the Coimbatore District Football Association (CDFA) at the eighth Annual General Body Meeting held at the Association office recently.
