Shobha defends Government’s decision

Staff Correspondent

MYSORE: Minister in-charge of Mysore district Shobha Karandlaje has defended the Government’s decision to increase the retirement age of government employees from 58 to 60 years.

Ms. Karandlaje, who is the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, addressed presspersons after inaugurating a free health check-up camp for Government employees organised by the Mysore district unit of Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association here on Sunday.

Reason

She said the decision to increase the retirement age was taken due to scarcity of staff in almost all departments.

“Due to hurdles in appointing people and in order to overcome the current scarcity of staff , the Government fixed the retirement age at 60 years, giving two more years of service to those on the verge of retirement,” she said.

Proposed privatisation

Referring to reports on the proposed privatisation of Chamundeshwari Temple , the Minister said that there was no such proposal before the Government and termed the reports “baseless”.

The camp was also attended by family members of the employees. More than 150 doctors examined the patients.

MLCs Tontadarya, Siddaraju and MLA H.S. Shankaralinge Gowda participated in the function.
