HYDERABAD: Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy has asked journalists to introspect for themselves how much of freedom their employers allowed them in the discharge of their professional duties. The question of freedom was a challenge faced by journalists, he said while inaugurating a seminar ‘Media – peoples’ perspective’ organised by AP Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) to mark its Golden Jubilee Foundation Day celebration here on Sunday. The Speaker observed that the legislature had always gone soft on the media whenever it breached the privileges of legislators. The reason was the legislature wanted media to be strong. “In spite of hurdles, we want the media to flourish. It is only then the democracy will strengthen,” he remarked. C.C. Reddy, Advisor to Government on Agriculture, regretted the trend of corporatisation of media. Devulapalli Amar, Chairman, Press Academy of AP, said the media was constantly facing a trial by civil society as it quite often came into conflict with different sections of people. K. Amarnath, general secretary of golden jubilee celebrations committee, said the union was founded on this day in 1957 by Manikonda Chalapathi Rao.
