Meet works out details of pageantry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The floats of local bodies will be a major highlight of the September 16 pageantry that will bring the curtains down on Kerala Tourism’s week-long Onam celebrations here.

The pageantry committee, chaired by district panchayat president Anavoor Nagappan, worked out the details of the pageantry from Kowdiar Square to East Fort at a meeting here recently.

The 12 block panchayats, the district panchayat and four municipalities in the district and the City Corporation will present floats.

The meeting decided to ensure 10 floats each from cooperative institutions and public sector undertakings, 15 from private institutions and five from Central departments. The government had ordered sanction of Rs. 10,000 each to the grama panchayats, Rs. 20,000 to the municipalities and Rs. 25,000 to the Corporation for the pageantry.

The primary cooperative institutions and banks will get Rs. 10,000 each, while the public sector undertakings, self-governing bodies, government departments and State and district banks Rs. 1 lakh each.
