Andhra Pradesh
The need to inculcate and encourage various cultural aspects among youth was stressed during a meeting in the city recently. But, the absence of a government-run college in the ‘city of destiny’ for promotion of fine arts such as music and dance is acting as a deterrent. The aspiring youth have no other alternative but to take their training under the guidance of local gurus. But, without following a prescribed syllabus and curriculum, it is not possible to attain perfection. This can be overcome by establishing a college to promote fine arts. The Department of Culture and university authorities should work in this direction. P.V.R. Murty, Visakhapatnam Reduce BSNL rentalsBSNL is attracting the public by organising road-shows and introducing new schemes. However, the rent for BSNL telephones with only incoming calls is on the high side at Rs.268 for two months. The authorities should reduce the bi-monthly rentals for such phones by Rs.50 or Rs.40 to make it reasonable. Ch. Babu Rao Visakhapatnam Laudable moveIt is laudable that the GVMC has chalked out a plan to make Visakhapatnam a dustbin-free city. A lot of spade work needs to be done to achieve the goal as the city is notorious for poor awareness on hygiene and cleanliness. Even in the so-called posh localities, the residents throw garbage on the road and in open drains. The concept of collecting garbage at the households and its segregation into organic and inorganic waste at the source itself is good. Amidst the concrete jungle, there are many households that are nature-friendly and which grow kitchen gardens. Provision should be made to collect garden waste also at the doorstep. T.S. Rao Visakhapatnam Road in bad shapeThere is an urgent need for re-laying the Isukathota main road, a pucca road from Durga temple to MVP double road, a stretch of two furlongs. The road is full of potholes. The GVMC should relay it for the convenience of the public. V. Someswara Rao Visakhapatnam
