TIRUCHI: The Train Travellers’ Welfare Association has urged the Railways to take steps for introducing regular services in the Tiruvarur–Nagore section with immediate effect. The broad gauge conversion works in the Tiruvarur–Nagore section had already been completed. Launch delayedThe Railways came out with an announcement of operating regular trains in this section in the month of May itself. But the assurance was only on paper, the general secretary of the Association, M. Lourduraj, said in a statement issued here on Sunday. Only the mandatory inspection by the Commissioner for Railway Safety was pending. DevoteesThe annual festival at the Velankanni shrine commences on August 29, in which a large number of devotees not only from different parts of the country, but also from countries like France, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka are expected to participate. Following the representations received from people belonging to various sections, the Association had made representation to the Additional General Manager of the Southern Railway and the Divisional Railway Manager to open the track for regular services without any further delay, he added.
