CII’s Young Indians and Saveetha Dental College to hold free dental camp
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: CII’s Young Indians (Yi), in association with Saveetha Dental College, is organising a free “Yi General Health and Dental Camp” on August 19 and 20 at two schools in Chennai.
The camps targeting 3,500 children will be held at the Tarapore and Lokanathan Primary School and Dhun Tarapore Memorial Preparatory School, Ayanavaram.
The camp is being conducted as part of Yi’s Education initiative known as Akshara where a learning resource centre has been set up for 16 city schools, of which 10 are being sponsored by Cognizant Foundation.
The general health check-up would include eye care and screening of patients for all dental ailments and comprehensive treatment, which would include extractions, scaling and filling of teeth.
A most important aspect of this camp will be patient education wherein all patients will be given a general idea about preventive aspects including correct brushing techniques, various treatments available for patients with dental problems.
Priya Ram, Healthcare Chairperson, Yi Chennai said that “the idea of conducting such camps in schools is to create awareness of proper brushing techniques and oral hygiene in order to help them maintain a healthy and permanent dentition.”
A fully equipped mobile dental treatment van — the first of its kind in Chennai — will be used during the camp.
