PUDUCHERRY: Several students of St. Patrick School won scholarships from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in various sports categories. Students of Class XII Suriya Kumar and Avanti Ashok Bade, Janis Maria Fredrick of Class X and Rebecca of Class X received the sports scholarship of Rs.6,600. TournamentsAt the Zone II inter-school tournament, sub-junior boys of the school won in volleyball, while the junior boys and girls won in badminton. In badminton, the sub-junior boys came as runners-up. Mohammed Ashraf of Class XII, Roshan Sebastian of Class XI, Sridevi of Standard X and Samuel of Class IX took part in the south zone athletic championship conducted in Coimbatore. The students won several prizes at the inter-school competitions organised by the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya at the high and higher secondary school levels. Education Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan gave away the prizes to them. At the high school level, students of Class IX P. Arunkumar, V.Aravindan, S. Ashrantram, K. Arvind, M.Jeyavelan and Harishkumar won the first prize in silent skit. S. Suguna of IX won the first place in English elocution, while P. Gauvwadami of Class VII and R. Jayanandini of Class IX won the second and third prizes. In painting competition, K. Karthik Arvind of Class IX bagged the first prize, while B. Ranjithkumarand S. Janani of Class IX secured the second and third prizes respectively. At the higher secondary level, students of Class XI V. Santhakumar, Tony Abey Kynadi, T. Puviyarasan, Gracil Benedict, R. Sarathkumar and V.V. Balasubramanian won the first prize in silent skit. While S. Jayashree of Standard XI won the second prize in English elocution, R. Reshme Devika and M. Aravind Baskar of Class XI won the third prize. In drawing, R. Prasanth Prabu of Class XI won the first prize, while M. Gayathri of Standard XI bagged the second prize. Deepti Sandur, a student of Class XI won the first prize in English essay, while Arunima Saxena of Class XI won the third prize. Winning spreeIt was winning spree for students of St. Joseph of Cluny Higher Secondary School. M. Vedhaprabha of Standard VI took part in the BSNL Circle cultural selection held at Tiruchirapalli and bagged the first prize in carnatic music light, second in carnatic folk and second in spot painting. She also won a cash award of Rs.500. A number of students participated in the Zonal Games Championship 2008-2009. In table tennis, the winners in the under-14 category were R. Srinidhi and Jeswin Monica George of Class VIII, K. Nivethitha of Class VI, while R. Jenifer Jacquiline of Class X, R. Vaishnavi of Class IX and K. Aishwarya of Class IX were the runners up in the under-17 category. S. Vanithaa of Class XI, P. Annie Esther Rose of Class XI and P. Sivaranjany of Class XII came as runners up in the under-19 category. S. Padmaja of Class VI won the under-14 category in chess, while B. Taraswinee of Class X and Abinaya of Class XI emerged winners in the under-17 and under-19 categories. In volleyball, B. Dhivya, M. Shruti, S. Sindhu Bharathy, V.R. Karthika, Chandra Monleeshwari, M. Monisha, A. Sofia Pragasam, G. Narmada, Jumana Jahan, B. Archana and Nandhini took part in the under-14 category, while S. Sivasankari, A. Joy Agnes, P. Kiruthiga, S. Priyadharshini, J. Preethilakshmi, V. Saraswathi Samyuktha, R. Suba, K. Malani, Angeline Xavier, A. Alice Innocent, P. Nancy Biswas and V. Gayathri took part in the under-17 category. A student of Class VI, K.R. Anjana took part in the Puducherry State Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament and came as runner-up in the under-12 category and received a cash award of Rs.750. In the under-14 category, she secured the semi finalist place and received cash prize of Rs.500. Cecile of Standard VI qualified for the second and final round in under-12 and under-14 categories. Jenifer Jacquiline of Standard X took part in the State level Ranking Table Tennis Tournament conducted by Sri Krishnamal Kovindapathar Sports Club and won the junior singles and women’s singles event. Two students – Preethi Philip and B.Sindhu Ravindra were awarded cash prizes of Rs.50,000 and Rs.30,000 by the Directorate of School Education for securing first and second ranks respectively in the matriculation public examination held in March/April 2008. Rolling trophyStudents of Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School bagged the rolling trophy in the inter school quiz competition conducted by St. Patrick Matriculation Higher Secondary School during the first week of August. Two students – Harish and Joe Vimal Raj of Class X won the second prize in the junior level, while R. Gurudharshan and R. Avinash of Standard VI bagged the first prize in the sub-junior category. C.V. Devanathan and R. Thiruvikraman of Class V came third in the sub-junior level. The students also participated in the inter school talent search competition conducted by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya and won several prizes. R. Sivachandran got the first prize for English essay writing and T. Aravindan of Class VIII bagged the third prize in the high school level. S. Jayaram secured the third prize in English elocution. The silent skit group of the school won the second prize in the high school category and third prize in higher secondary level. Nithish of Class XI won the first prize in English elocution. In ChessStudents of Achariya Bala Siksha Mandir, Uppalam took part in the Independence Day Open Chess tournament and P. Preethy of Class IV bagged the first prize in under-10 category, A. Aroul Poodja of Class IV won the first prize in under-nine category. Student of Class III Saahishnavi Rajan came third in the under-nine category and Adithya Naraynan of Class III got the second prize in the under-seven category. The school celebrated the 62nd Independence Day with flag hoisting and cultural events. The day reinforced the message to strive towards making India strong and prosperous, free from poverty, illiteracy and underdevelopment. Cultural festAt Sri Sankara Vidyalaya School, six guide students participated in a three-day patrol leaders training camp organised by Bharath Scouts and Guides. The school celebrated Independence Day by hoisting the flag. A cultural fest on the values of freedom was also held on the occasion. Students of primary classes were taken for a visit to the Botanical Garden, aquarium, Bharathiar Koodam and Bharathi Park on August 14.
