Total prohibition demanded

Pollachi: The Mahatma Gandhi Ashram here has asked the State Government to close all liquour shops run by Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) and enforce a total prohibition. A resolution was passed during the Independence Day celebrations held at the Ashram. The other resolutions included suspension of the scheme to distribute free colour television sets. The funds for the purpose should be used to implement other welfare measures. Hindi should be offered as an optional language in schools. Ashram activists burnt copies of pornographic literature.
