Trade unions gear up for Jail Bharo

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The All-India Central Council of Trade Unions has called for support to the Jail Bharo agitation to be organised on August 20 as part of the nationwide strike to exert pressure on the Central and State governments to give up their anti-people policies and cancel the proposed civilian nuclear deal with the U.S. Council State president Ch. Nageswara Rao stated in a press release that the strike was intended to convey mass opposition to the policies that were detrimental to Indian economy and people in general.

The Centre was showing undue haste in signing the nuclear deal instead of tackling inflation and other problems being faced by the common people.

Workers’ welfare

The council’s main demands were enacting a comprehensive legislation for the welfare of workers in the unorganised sector, giving up the proposal to regulate pension funds, protecting the right to strike and streamlining the public distribution system.
