ERODE: Public Works Department’s Water Resource Organisation will soon remove encroachments on water bodies. According to H.J. Nanjan of the department, they had so far removed 12 km of encroachments along the Kuranganpallam canal. They have also removed all but one lake of encroachments. Work is also on to remove encroachments in the inflow areas of Orathapalayam Dam, across River Noyyal. As far irrigation canals, Mr. Nanjan says the department has undertaken a survey and the encroached area has been demarcated. Stones have also been laid. Once the district administration gives the go ahead, we will start removing them, he says. Regarding Perumpallam Odai, he says notice has been served to those who have encroached. Once the Odai is completed, the department will take up clearing Pichaikaranpallam Odai, he adds.
