PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday attributed the bus fare hike imposed by the private fleet operators unilaterally to the prevailing “disharmony” in the Cabinet. In a statement here, CPI (M) unit secretary V.Perumal said the burning issues of the people had been relegated to the background, owing to the infighting in the Ministry. Bus fare had been increased without any government order, he said, adding that the administration’s failure to take action against the fleet operators had raised apprehensions about its role in this regard. He asked the government to cancel the fare hike and take proper action against the private bus operators who had arbitrarily raised the fare. He also urged the government to hold talks with the fleet owners to find an amicable solution to the issue, besides working out an alternative to ease the burden of the commuters.
