DAVANGERE: Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, has said a complex that will house the Deputy Commissioner’s office and the mini-Vidhana Soudha will soon be built here at a cost of Rs. 58 crore. Participating in a function to felicitate Agriculture Minister S.A. Ravindranath and other BJP MLAs here on Monday, Mr. Siddeshwar said a proposal had been submitted to the Government in this regard. He expressed the confidence that Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa would sanction the project. Mr. Siddeshwar said work on the Tuppadakere project which envisages lifting of water from the Tungabhadra and filling 22 tanks in drought-hit parts of the district such as Jagalur and Harpanahalli, would begin soon. He said the process of inviting tenders had been completed and the Irrigation Department had cleared the project. Earlier, only 19 tanks had been listed. Three more tanks were included in the project for which approval had to be obtained from the Cabinet. The issue would be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting and the clearance obtained, he added. The estimated cost of implementing the irrigation project was Rs. 141 crore. Modernisation of the Bhadra canals would restart in November, Mr. Siddeshwar said and added that so far Rs. 264 crore had been spent on it. The total cost of modernising the canals was Rs. 981 crore. The MP said the proposed textile park in Davangere would be set up in 10 months.
