Corporation employee alleges Pawar manhandled him Councillor promises to be more polite in future DAVANGERE: Staff of the Davangere City Corporation went on a snap strike on Monday in protest against what they termed “misbehaviour” by BJP councillor Krishna Kumar Pawar. Routine work at the corporation office was affected for more than three hours because of the strike. On being informed of the strike, Mayor Madamma Muniswamy and Deputy Mayor P.S. Jayanna rushed to the corporation office and tried in vain to pacify the staff. The staff led by Govinda Naika alleged that Mr. Pawar had unnecessarily intervened in the administrative matters of the corporation and said the latter manhandled him. Mr. Naika said this was not the first time that Mr. Pawar had misbehaved with the staff. Apology soughtMs. Madamma and Mr. Jayanna told the staff that they would seek an explanation from Mr. Pawar in this regard. If he was wrong, he would be asked to mend his ways. But, the staff refused to give up their agitation till the councillor tendered an apology. With much difficulty, the Mayor convinced the employees and took them to her chamber for discussions. Mr. Pawar said he had only sought details from the officers regarding utilisation of funds in the implementation of various schemes. He said he had received complaints from the people about officials demanding money for carrying out their duties. Hence, he had sought details from the officers. Ms. Madamma told him that there was nothing wrong in seeking clarifications from the officials, but there was a way to do that. She also told the staff not to get worked up whenever a councillor sought clarifications from them and added that councillors were elected representatives and had every right to get information. Upon being asked to apologise to the staff, Mr. Pawar only chose to promise that he would be more polite. The staff of the corporation later withdrew their strike.
