Karunakar Reddy asks official to submit details of shoddily built classrooms Chitradurga: Minister for Revenue and district in-charge G. Karunakar Reddy has instructed the Deputy Director of Public Instruction to book criminal cases against headmasters and School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) presidents if they are found to have misappropriated funds meant for constructing classrooms. Chairing the quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting at the zilla panchayat meeting hall here on Monday, he directed the DDPI to submit details of the number of classrooms rooms that were found to have been built shoddily. “Several complaints have been made against headmasters for colluding with SDMC presidents in the misuse of government funds. How can we expect them to build the careers of students if they are involved in such corrupt activities?” he asked. Drinking waterLaying emphasis on drinking water, Mr. Reddy expressed displeasure over the delay in expediting work on projects by the zilla panchayat engineering department. “No excuses will be entertained. Officials must ensure that they (drinking water projects) are given importance,” he said. L.B. Rajshekharappa, chairman of the zilla panchayat Standing Committee on Social Justice, complained that even after making payments to the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), it had not provided connections to 56 villages for the supply of drinking water through borewells. The Minister then directed an official of BESCOM who was present, to provide connections within one week. “I will initiate action against you if the department fails to complete the work within the stipulated time,” he warned. Mr. Reddy was visibly upset over the functioning of the Social Welfare Department, which, he said, had failed to distribute scholarships to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students, even two months after schools commenced. The Minister expressed unhappiness when officials of several departments could not furnish data on various schemes and asked them to come well prepared next time. MLAs S.K. Basavarajan, M. Chandrappa, N.Y. Gopalkrishna and Tippeswamy; Deputy Commissioner Amlan Aditya Biswas; zilla panchayat chief executive officer H.P. Prakash; and zilla panchayat president Geeta Nandini Gowda were present.
