KAKINADA: Former Rajya Sabha member Vanga Geetha has ended her long association with the Telugu Desam Party by tendering resignation amidst reports of her joining actor Chiranjeevi’s party. However, she is yet to take a final decision on her future course of action. The increasing tendency of the TDP’s top leadership to sideline ‘real workers’ and discriminate against women has made her sever links with the party, Ms. Geetha said at a press conference here on Monday. “I am grateful to N.T. Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu for enhancing my stature in the party from a grassroot level worker to a member of Rajya Sabha. But, I could not remain a mute spectator to certain recent developments in the party which have made a dent in its strongholds. Real workers like me have been relegated to the background in favour of manipulators. I have therefore decided to quit the party after the long futile wait for Mr. Naidu’s response to my complaints,” Ms. Geetha said. The former MP said the TDP had considerably weakened after the 2004 elections and its support base was on the wane. But, nothing was done to stem the rot. In these circumstances, the party could not even hope to regain lost ground, she added. “I am pained that the party, with which I was associated for nearly 25 years, has completely drifted from its path, forcing leaders like me to quit. I wonder what purpose the plethora of appraisal reports have served. N.T Rama Rao was a down-to-earth man who had no ‘computer backup’, but he did a splendid job in promoting the worthy and punishing the wayward,” Ms. Geetha added.
